In the UK, patients with life-threatening injuries, often with associated complex open fractures, are now predominantly managed in major trauma centres. Larval debridement therapy (LDT) can be an integral part of managing the traumatic wounds that present in these centres.

LDT has been used effectively in wound care for a number of years as a method of debridement and has a number of advantages.
