The Tissue Viability Society

Where is the Tissue Viability Society going?

The Tissue Viability Society has been in existence for 26 years and could be considered to be an established part of the UK wound prevention and healing community. However no association should ever rest on its past glories and should always be looking to meet, and indeed exceed member and non-member expectations of the Society. To this end the Trustees and Management of the Tissue Viability Society have reviewed and refined their objectives for the coming years to give members and potential members a clear understanding regarding what the Society stands for and where it is heading.

What is the Tissue Viability Society about?

The Tissue Viability Society exists to; Disseminate to healthcare professionals, academic colleagues, members of the public, policy makers and the bioscience industries and other stakeholders via the Journal of Tissue Viability, the Tissue Viability Society web site and the Tissue Viability Society's conferences and other events:

  • Information relating to the development of tissue viability as a multi-professional specialism
  • Awareness of classic and contemporary research pertinent to tissue viability
  • Examples of all aspects of peer accepted best clinical practice in tissue viability

Communicate effectively to members and non-members regarding advances in tissue viability

Represent the views of members to healthcare policy makers

Therefore the Tissue Viability Society through communication, dissemination and sharing of knowledge aims to contribute to and develop the field of tissue viability.

What is the Tissue Viability Society going to do to meet its objectives?

By the end of 2009 the Trustees and Management of the Tissue Viability Society will have:

Maintained and extended the unique multi-disciplinary nature of the Tissue Viability Society including extending the reach of the Society outside the UK.

Published eight issues of the Journal of Tissue Viability now published by Elsevier Ltd and listed on several electronic databases including MEDLINE, CINHAL, Science Direct and EMBASE.

Hosted a national conference in the Spring of each year.

Publish electronically regular newsletters and updates for members.

Continually enhance its web site at www.tvs.org.uk

Respond proactively as stakeholders to national and international developments.

Increase interest in and membership of the Tissue Viability Society

Maintain the financial stability of the Tissue Viability Society to enable it to better serve members.

Encourage members to become Trustees of the Tissue Viability Society to allow the membership to guide our growth

Through these actions members of the Tissue Viability Society will gain significant benefits helping them to maintain their knowledge and position at the leading edge of Tissue Viability. Membership in 2008 will cost individuals £30. Membership can be paid by cheque made payable to the Tissue Viability Society and sent to TVS, 21 Wilson Street, Cardiff, CF24 2NZ, or membership can be paid by credit card at www.tvs.org.uk

World Union Congress 2008, Toronto, Canada

One Problem, One Voice

Where there is something for everyone.

You know the old saying, 'we can please some of the people all of the time and all of the people some of the time'? Well, why can't we please all of the people all of the time? The answer is we can. And we will - with the comprehensive curriculum planned for the upcoming World Union Congress 2008.

Understanding that wound care professionals have different levels of experience, unique requirements for continuing education, and personal areas of interest, Congress 2008 is all about choice. With 10 concurrent evidence based streams featuring more that 100 educational sessions, delegates have the ability to design a program of learning ideally suited to their needs. For example, if the focus is on treating acute wounds, there are 10 comprehensive sessions focused exclusively on burns, surgical, traumatic wounds and other acute wounds, enabling the creation of an in-depth, highly focused agenda. The same inclusive agenda exists for pressure ulcers, diabetic foot ulcers, ostomy/continence/skin care, leg ulcers, and complex wounds - all accredited by the University of Toronto.

If one of these sessions is not of interest, then perhaps a theme based curriculum would be. Congress 2008 has it. With 6 themes woven throughout the streams it's easy to pursue one area of interest. These include infection, evidence/education, quality of life, health care systems, local wound care, and research.

And there's more. Free papers will be presented by 150 wound care professionals on a variety of topics from global perspectives and research to the management of complex wounds. There will be 200 key opinion leaders from the field of wound care participating to ensure delegates receive the most current clinical information available as well as training in best practices that can be applied to invigorate your wound care practice.

With a stimulating pre-conference day, three plenary sessions featuring internationally acknowledged speakers, and the world's largest wound care trade exhibition, there truly is something for everyone at this unique conference.

Don't wait. Register today for Congress 2008 at www.worldunion2008.com

If you do, you'll be pleased.
