Wound Care Academy Scholarship and AwardsExcellence in wound care was recognised and rewarded at the Mölnlycke Health Care Wound Care Academy Scholarship and Awards lunch, held in London on the 27th May 2015. Dr David Foster, Director of the Nursing, Midwifery and Allied Health Professions Policy Unit at the Department of Health presented the certificates.

The prestigious 2015 Novice Scholarship was awarded to Tissue Viability Nurse Angela Rivett at City Hospital, Sunderland. A newcomer to tissue viability, Angela aims to continue her development in skills and knowledge whilst establishing a learning zone and handbook for students.

The winner in the Burns and Plastics category was Rosemary Rose, a Tissue Viability Clinical Nurse Specialist from Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust. The Award submission outlined a case study demonstrating the use of portable NPWT and allogenic keratinocytes being used alternative to the application of a skin graft to heal a full thickness skin loss head wound.

In the Service Development category, the award when to Michelle Porter and Jane Parker, both Tissue Viability Nurses from The Queen Elizabeth Hospital in King's Lynn. Their submission centred on the 'Ready to Roll' campaign which aimed to promote improve pressure area care within the hospital.

Also Highly Commended in the Service Development category were Kate Green and Hayley Williams, Macmillan Head and Neck Clinical Nurse Specialists from The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre, Wirral as well as Joan Sweeney, Macmillan Specialist Radiographer, Musgrove Park Hospital, Taunton.

Now in its 14th year, the Wound Academy scholarship and awards celebrates Health Care Professionals working within wound care management for innovation within wound care practice. Winners of the scholarship benefit from a bursary and mentorship through the academy, enabling them to continue personal and professional development.
