STOPCUTS trial for new skin tear prevention stockingsA new trial on Dermatuff products will begin in care homes across Exeter, Exmouth and North Devon.

Dermatuff products are flexible, protective stockings and sleeves that help prevent skin tear occurrence. They are made of a hard, heat-resistant fibre called aramid and have previously been shown to reduce the incidence of skin tears in local care homes by 97%. The stockings have been approved for the NHS Supply Chain and will be assessed in a trial coined the 'STOPCUTS' randomised controlled trial, reaching 30 care homes and a total of 90 residents. The trial will last 16 weeks and the results will be released in 2014.
