KCI’s V.A.C. Via™ to be available on Drug Tariff in the UKThe KCI V.A.C. Via™ was launched in March 2010 as an off-the-shelf, portable negative pressure wound therapy pump for moderate to low-severity wounds. It is available as a single-use device that delivers continuous negative pressure (-75mmHg or -125mmHg) and is supplied complete with canister and one week’s treatment.

August 1st 2011 will see V.A.C. ViaTM listed on the UK Drug Tariff. This is the first time this technology has been available on prescription in the UK.

The addition of V.A.C. ViaTM to the UK Drug Tariff 'will revolutionise how patients receive therapy' states Mike Genau, Global President of Active Healing Solutions at KCI.

The V.A.C. ViaTM can be purchased by the hospital or GP, making it easier to discharge patients from hospital to continue their treatment at home. This may help to reduce NHS costs by freeing up hospital beds, but also allows patients to return to work earlier and take part in their normal daily and social activities. The device is lightweight, easy to use and can be worn in a pocket.
