Graham Ewart appointed chair of Woundcare4HeroesGraham Ewart, Managing Director of Direct Healthcare Services, which manufactures pressure care products including specialist mattresses and cushions, will now join the board of trustees at Welsh charity Woundcare4Heroes.

Woundcare4Heroes was founded in 2012 to help develop a national network of complex wound management services and raise funds for specialist NHS care facilities needed to help military veterans who require long-term wound care. The charity's founders recognised that there is a lack of specialist knowledge and support around treatment for those severely injured at war. Ewart, who has a wealth of business experience in the healthcare industry, will help deliver Woundcare4Heroes' long-term vision to establish a robust support network for wounded veterans throughout the UK.

The charity's first clinical facility will open at the Welsh Wound Innovation Centre based in Cardiff. Due to open in May, The Simon Weston Suite will be a model for the national network of local centres.

The charity's founder and CEO, Claire Stephens, believes Ewart's commercial experience will ensure it meets its financial and strategic goals. She said: "We have built significant momentum over the past 20 months and are now in a transitional phase of becoming extremely busy setting up facilities and outreach services. The charity has fast evolved into a significantly different organisation, requiring key business skills at board level to aid our future growth and development.

"With a proven commercial and financial background and a solid understanding of the wound care area, Graham will help us deliver our vision to create a better future for severely injured veterans. His appointment is a sign of our commitment to the future of Woundcare4Heroes and we are confident he will be instrumental in our success."

Graham Ewart commented: "It's an exciting prospect to be appointed as the new chair of Woundcare4Heroes. Direct Healthcare Services works closely with wound care specialists and it is therefore an honour to work with a charity committed to delivering the best services to wounded veterans in need. I am looking forward to playing a crucial role in achieving the charity's goals."
