Ellie Lindsay honoured for service to nursingFormer district nurse and pioneer of the Leg Club model has been honoured in the Queen's Birthday list for service to nursing with an Order of the British Empire (OBE).

Ellie conceived and introduced an innovative, social Leg Club model for wound management in the community in 1995, and has since disseminated the concept worldwide. There are now 27 Leg Clubs in the UK, one in Germany and 11 in Australia.

The Leg Club model has been hugely successful in helping to motivate and empower patients to take ownership of their care, alleviate their suffering and reduce the stigma attached to their condition. Research has been shown that the Leg Club model can help to improve healing rates, reduce recurrence and address many of the problems faced by the socially isolated.

Wounds UK would like to offer their congratulations to Ellie for her very special and well-deserved award.
