Preventing pressure ulceration in surgical patients Pressure ulcers are a common, but often preventable, condition that occur most often in high-risk patients. The development of pressure ulcers is a cause for concern in any healthcare setting. They can occur at any stage in the patient journey, however, one clinical setting that is often overlooked is the operating theatre. Many patients may be at higher risk of developing a pressure ulcer in the perioperative period (Rogan, 2007).
