How effective is wound swabbing? A clinimetric assessment of wound swabs

The swabbing of wounds is routinely carried out in a number of healthcare environments to determine the level of bioburden present in wounds of various aetiologies. The test is carried out as wound bioburden is widely recognised as a threat to wider systemic infection, as well as a barrier to healing.
