Effective local management of wound exudate is dependent upon dressing selection. There are numerous dressings available, and selection should be based upon factors such as fluid-retention and handling capabilities, comfort during wear time, and if the dressing adhesive results in trauma and pain during removal. A new dressing, Biatain® Silicone, utilises the superior absorbency of Biatain® Foam, with a silicone adhesive that is gentle on the skin when removed. This article describes the dressing’s characteristics and presents two case reports describing its use in practice.
