This is a 6 month online distance learning course. Satisfactory completion of the course gains 15 credits at level 9 SCQF. This course can be taken as a stand alone module or as an option module in the BA Professional Studies and the BN Community Health routes. The course helps nurses to develop their knowledge and understanding about the theoretical principles underpinning wound care including the evidence for practice; anatomy, physiology and pathophysiology of wounds; physical and psychological aspects of wounds; wound healing; professional and ethical issues relating to wound care; holistic patient assessment; wound classification; wound management options; product selection; monitoring and evaluating care; accountability and record keeping; reflection on practice development. Students participate regularly in online discussions and post comments and formative development work onto the Virtual platform, sharing learning with peers through discussion/debate on issues relevant to their own clinical practice contributing to evidence based practice.
